To say the weeds have exploded in my backyard
and feel every dry stalk of it.
The way one is surrounded by a single finch.
A decision proven wrong by not being made,
a heart drawn in dust.
Donald Zirilli is the Poetry Adjudicator for the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival. He edited the Rutherford Red Wheelbarrow and Now Culture. His poetry has been published in over 40 periodicals and anthologies and was nominated for a Pushcart, a Forward Prize and Best of the Net, and he was a finalist for the James Tate Prize. His chapbook, Heaven’s Not for You, was published in 2018 by Kelsay Books.
