LEE POTTS

Shadow of Doubt
We change our lives
based on the faintest signal:
silence passing on
the street, lines drawn
between stars, distant city lights
seen from an attic window,
bones beneath our feet.
But I know I saw
you in the fragments
of the dish I dropped
this morning. Your cold
shadow came and covered me,
and this thing that passed
between us almost every day
became impossible.
